Hutchings Surprises Field at Waterford Speedbowl
Corey Hutchings surprised everyone at the Waterford Speedbowl this past Saturday night as the Salem Connecticut driver jumped behind the wheel of the Tom Metcalf #8x truck and held off the hard challenges from defending series champion Duane Noll to take down the win.Duane Noll would find himself on the pole in truck #2 with Dan Butler along side in truck# 27. As the green waived, Noll would get the quick jump on the field with Hutchings following through for second. The action wouldn’t last for long as the #22 truck of Corey Coates would have a fuel pickup problem and come to a stop on the backstretch on lap two. DJ McGouran would also have issues at this time in truck #73 and head to the pits. The field would quickly go back to green and get one more lap in before the #8 truck of Tom Metcalf would have issues bringing out the second caution of the race. On this restart, Hutchings would now be on the pole with Noll second, Butler third and Tony Lafo would now crack the top four in truck #151. These four would stay single file till lap 7 when the caution would wave for the third time for truck #7 of Chris Correll. McGouran and Bill Thibault Jr. would also take their trucks to the pits. Correll would make repairs and rejoin the field. On the restart, Hutchings would get the quick jump as Noll dropped into second and Butler third. The top three would stay the same through the half way point of the race. The man on the move was Correll, who had made his way back through the field and passed Lafo for fourth. With five laps to go, Noll would start to put a heavy challenge on Hutchings as Correll passed Butler to take the third spot. All eyes were now on the battle for the lead as Noll and Hutchings battled side by side. With two laps to go the final caution of the race would waive when Pete Cayer in truck #5 would overheat and loose fluid on the track. The field would line up for the final restart with Hutching and Noll leading the field back to the green. Once again Hutchings got a great start as Noll tucked in for second. Noll did everything he could but it wasn’t enough as Hutchings would take the victory followed by Noll, Correll, Butler and Lafo would round out the top five. The next race for the New England Truck Series will be on Saturday June 29th at the Monadnock Speedway in Winchester New Hampshire. For more information on the truck series, check out our web site at www.newenglandtruckseries.com
